Exam fear: What is it and what are the steps to avoid?

Exam Fear

From the beginning of the universe, the one thing that still instils fear in most students is ‘tests’. The exam is a word that each and every student finds terrifying. Normally most students get fever, dysentery and other health issues. Believe it or not, all these health issues are real. These are due to the tension and the stress they feel during their exam. This is explained in medical terms as exam-phobia. Here, let’s dive in to find the actual causes and the solutions for this exam phobia as it is useful for the students who are going to write their exams.

Causes for Exam Fear:

· The first and the most important reason are getting pass marks. Even if studying well, few students will not be confident enough to believe that the results will be good.

· Secondly, remembering the things that the student studied before the exam. The main problem some will face is that they forget what they have studied.

· The third thing is the marks. Marks are the important thing that gives self-esteem in the competitive world. If they get poor marks, it lets down the name of the teachers and their parents. The fear of not scoring enough marks takes a toll on their health

· Attention given to a single test and assignments makes them highly stressed and they won’t able to concentrate properly on their studies.

· Low concentration in studies and shows involvement in social media, games and other stuff on mobile phones.

· Finally, one of the biggest issues is negative talk. Once the students get negative thoughts and are surrounded by negative people, it is going to be very difficult for the student to get the desired result.

The above reasons are to be rectified because it affects the student’s academic score. It also impacts their health. Usually, many students are struggling with this phobia and suffer from anxiety and low esteem which should be treated. Below are some of the steps to be followed to overcome the exam fear.

Steps to overcome Exam Fear:

· First prepare a plan and schedule a timetable for revising the portions. Revising the portions makes the students prepare well for their exams.

· Take proper revision and mock tests. Last-minute preparation leads us to feel tensed and stressed. Avoid last-minute preparation to score well.

· Take proper rest and have a proper diet. Most of the students won’t have their food on time.

· Proper diet makes students get strength and learn properly.

· Don’t compare yourself with other students. Because comparing with others won’t let you concentrate on your learning.

· Have a regular and good sleep. Regular and timely sleep will keep the students active.

· Be positive and prepare well for the exam. Avoid learning new chapters during exam time.

· Before the exam take a deep breath, calm down and focus on your Public exams. So that it will be helpful for all your test preparations - be it your board exams or entrance exams like NEET, IIT-JEE etc.

Finally, Be confident. Take simple breathing exercises - breathe in and breathe out, to feel free and relaxed. Confidence will help overcome the fear and get you on the path to success.
